Get Back, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public non-profit charitable organization established in 2003 and continues to provide transitional housing, counseling, and work programs for male and female veterans in the Sacramento county area.
Our goal is to provide safe housing and a helping hand that stabilizes and supports, as our veterans complete the process of reinterpreting their place, their responsibilities, and contributions to themselves and their community. Counseling services include personal, family and group issues related to veterans. Each program is designed to offer information and support to our veterans, with an emphasis on community connections and relationship building.
Also, in response to the great need for employment among our veterans and the shortage of available jobs in the community, Get Back, Inc., has developed a number of unique, community based work/training programs, which provide immediate employment for our veterans. The goal is to provide a way by which our veterans may earn a reasonable income to sustain themselves and their families, both during their transitional phase and continuing into their reentry.
Our programs allow veterans to further develop the stability, confidence, and coping skills needed to sustain themselves as they move into permanent housing. It is required that residents maintain a sober and drug-free environment while living in Get Back housing, and residents may stay for up to 24 months.
Get Back, Inc., works with local, state and federal government veteran’s organizations to assure that our veterans have access to the services they need to heal and the support they need to thrive.
In 2008, Sacramento County, estimated that 25% of its chronic homeless population were veterans. It is reasonable to believe that percentage is much larger today.
We believe that homelessness among veterans is due, in large part, to the high rate of unemployment among this group.
Our clients are the veterans who have diligently served our country, voluntarily putting themselves in harms way to "protect and preserve" our great country, insuring us the privilege of enjoying the American way of life. Some of these great warriors have come home to the streets, emergency shelters, hospitals, and residential treatment programs. Many, unfortunately, have been incarcerated, and others were fortunate to enter transitional housing programs.
Any veteran, male or female, who is seeking the necessary skills, tools, and self-confidence to successfully complete the starting-over process is recruited into our program.
Get Back, Inc., welcomes support from the community to make this project fully successful. Whether you're a veteran or volunteer, contact us to find out how you may provide your skills to help with our mission!
